According to PBS, the very first commercial radio broadcast took place on Nov. 2, 1920, when the AM station KDKA in Pittsburgh reported that Warren G. Harding had won the presidential election. Within two years, 563 other commercial radio stations had been licensed, and radio’s Golden Era had begun.
