In January 1919, the 18th Amendment prohibited the sale and manufacture of alcohol (particularly cruel given that the electric blender was invented three years later in 1922, making cocktail creation so much easier). Prohibition was deemed a failure, and it was repealed by the 21st Amendment in December 1933.
