Texas Lawyer Charged in Parking Spat; No Gun Found in Office Search
A fender-bender at the parking lot of a Texas law office on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a well-known defense attorney after a man who may have been a client of another firm accused him of pulling a handgun during an alleged post-accident attack.
No gun was found on attorney Gary Hill or in his car or his law office, however, reports the El Paso Times. Hill was charged with aggravated assault and briefly jailed Wednesday but was back in his office seeing clients yesterday.
Hill, 64, was backing his black BMW sedan out of the parking lot around noon at the same time that another vehicle also was backing up in the vicinity, and the two reportedly collided. The other driver, 27-year-old Jorge Pedroza, accused Hill of shouting profanities and threatening to kill him, kicking and punching his orange Nissan sports car and wrestling with Pedroza for control of a cell phone on which he was trying to call police, in addition to allegedly pulling the handgun.
Hill’s lawyer, Richard Esper, says he argued with Pedroza but never pulled a gun. While Hill expects to prevail in court, “Any time you are arrested for a felony, it’s serious,” Esper said.
