President Barack Obama has decided not to publicly release photos of Osama bin Laden’s body, saying that it is not in the national interest do so so and “allow these images to become icons to rally opinion against the United States.”

However, federal lawmakers on the Senate’s armed services and intelligence committees will be given an opportunity to see the photos, at the Pentagon, reports CNN. Members of equivalent committees for the U.S. House of Representatives also will be included.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who chairs the Senate Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, confirmed the plan and said she probably will view the photos.

As detailed in earlier ABAJournal.com posts, Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan by U.S. forces after American intelligence operatives finally tracked him down.
