Seattle’s Lane Powell Acquires 17 Lawyers From Oregon Law Firm
Seattle-based Lane Powell is boosting its banking practice with the acquisition of 17 lawyers from Roberts Kaplan in Portland, Ore.
The change takes place Jan. 1, according to the Portland Business Journal and the Puget Sound Business Journal. The acquisition makes Lane Powell Portland’s sixth-largest law firm. In the Seattle area, it ranks fourth in size.
Roberts Kaplan name partner Joel Kaplan and real estate lawyer Elia Popovich aren’t among the lawyers making the move, according to the stories. They will start their own law firm.
Lane Powell managing partner Lewis Horowitz told the publications that the acquisition enhances the firm’s litigation services, along with practices in banking, securities, mergers and acquisitions, and specialized real estate.
Roberts Kaplan has “a very impressive reputation and client following and a very nice position in a couple of markets, including community banking,” Horowitz said. “We tend to have a lot of bigger banks, but the client needs are very similar.”
