Searches Missed Gun Smuggled into Jails in Flab of 500-Pound Suspect
A suspect who weighs more than 500 pounds has been accused of bringing an unloaded gun into two jails by hiding the weapon in his flab.
George Vera, 25, was charged with possession of a firearm in a correctional facility after his arrest on suspicion of selling bootleg compact discs, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Police say Vera managed to hide the gun despite four searches: on the scene of his arrest, at his arrival at a city jail in Houston, at his transfer to the Harris County jail, and after he was placed in the county jail, according to the story.
Vera later admitted to a guard that he had a weapon, the story says.
