A prominent California personal injury lawyer has been criminally charged for allegedly impersonating a female neighbor on the Internet and setting up pages encouraging strangers seeking sexual encounters to contact her.

But attorney Franklin Casco Jr., 49, has been wrongly accused by Irvine police, his counsel, John Barnett, tells the Orange County Register.

Authorities say they tracked the creator of the sex pages to Casco’s law firm via Internet Protocol addresses, the article explains. However, “nothing found on his computer links this to him,” Barnett tells the newspaper. “He is an attorney with an excellent reputation and doesn’t need to resort to these tactics in this case.”

Casco pleaded not guilty earlier this year to 10 felonies including conspiracy, stalking and identity theft, the article says.

An employee of his firm has also pleaded not guilty to the same charges. The article doesn’t include any comment from him or his attorney.

The criminal charges follow civil litigation between Casco and the neighboring husband and wife:

Casco apparently first sued the couple several years ago, over an addition they are constructing to their home. The couple, identified as Jane and John Doe, are now suing him and the employee in Orange County Superior Court seeking damages concerning the Internet sex pages, according to the Register.

The Does’ lawyer, Vince Finaldi, says they have moved from their home out of fear that they might be targeted by sexual predators.
