Make lemonade and count your blessings, a consultant tells a recent graduate of a low-ranked California law school who seeks advice about the low-paid part-time job she has finally found in a small corporate boutique in Chicago.

“Breaking-In” should simultaneously make every effort to wow her part-time employer into offering her an associate position yet also look for work elsewhere with the help of the nine-month part-time stint she can now put on her resumé.

But even her current job represents significant forward progress, writes Ann Israel of Ann Israel & Associates in an Advice to the Lawlorn column in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

“I know a lot of recent law school graduates who would give anything to trade places with you right now,” Israel tells Breaking-In.
