Once upon a time, Bayless & Stokes needed a law library. But today it is largely duplicated on the Internet, and members of the small Houston firm began to wonder how it could better use the space.

The answer, they decided, was to create Christmas shop selling holiday items on the ground floor of their law firm. Both of the firm’s two lawyers and their secretary regularly work on the sales floor of their Christmas Rocks store, in addition to fulfilling their usual legal roles, reports the Houston Chronicle.

“We love Christmas and thought it would fit with the other businesses here,” says attorney Dalia Stokes, a probate practitioner. The firm is surrounded by upscale antique stores and some expensive homes, the newspaper points out.

December is, of course, the business month for the four-year-old store, and the month tends to be a slow one in law practice, Stokes notes. And, she adds, “some clients do end up becoming customers too.”
