KC law firm Spencer Fane grows to 190 lawyers with acquisition of 70-year-old Denver firm
Kansas City-based Spencer Fane will have more than 190 full-time lawyers as a result of its acquisition of a 70-year-old Denver law firm, Berenbaum Weinshienk.
The addition of 30 lawyers from Berenbaum Weinshienk will give Spencer Fane 55 lawyers in Colorado, the Am Law Daily reports. A press release is here.
Spencer Fane will be competing with large law firms entering the Colorado market, but chairman Pat Whalen tells the Am Law Daily his firm’s lower rates and higher partner-to-associate ratios will provide a boost.
“We think our model with our rate structure and a leaner leverage model resonates with the Colorado market,” Whalen said. “We don’t think companies in Colorado are prepared to pay the rates that clients can pay on the coasts.”
