A federal judge has ordered Libya to pay more than $6 billion to the families of seven Americans killed in the 1989 bombing of a French plane.

U.S. District Judge Henry Kennedy of Washington, D.C., said the judgment would compensate the families for the economic losses caused by the wrongful deaths, Reuters reports. He had ruled in April that Libya was responsible for the bombing of the plane, which crashed while traveling from Chad to Paris.

Six Libyans were convicted in France for their roles in the attack. Libya has pledged to honor U.S. Court judgments, Bloomberg reports.
