Almost 30 years after he traveled to New York to gun down John Lennon, his convicted killer, Mark David Chapman, won’t be getting out of prison anytime soon.

He was denied parole for the sixth time today, reports the Associated Press.

“Release remains inappropriate at this time and incompatible with the welfare of the community,” the panel wrote to Chapman, 55, after reaching a decision today. It cited “the disregard you displayed for the norms of our society and the sanctity of human life when, after careful planning, you traveled to New York for the sole purpose of killing John Lennon.”

Chapman remains at Attica Correctional Facility in upstate New York and will be eligible to apply again in 2012, notes KWTX.

He is serving 20 years to life for shooting the famed member of the Beatles singing group in December 1980.
