A boutique hit with a $10 million malpractice verdict has lost its managing partner and 18 other lawyers to Los Angeles law firm Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger.

The lawyer losses are forcing the imminent closing of the boutique, Rutter Hobbs & Davidoff, its former managing partner told the Daily Journal (sub. req.). Rutter Hobbs’ one-time leader, Brian Davidoff, will head Greenberg Glusker’s bankruptcy practice.

Fifteen partners are among the group making the move, the story says. Among them are Joel Weinstein, who will chair the corporate practice at Greenberg Glusker.

In July, Rutter Hobbs and a retired partner were found liable for $10 million in a malpractice suit by a former client claiming bad advice in a business transaction. Greenberg Glusker won’t take on Rutter Hobbs’ liabilities, the Daily Journal says, because it is acquiring individual lawyers rather than the entire firm, which once had 30 lawyers.
