On March 31, after a series of phone calls alerted authorities to complaints of widespread sexual abuse and domestic violence, Texas child protection workers began removing children from the Yearning for Zion compound belonging to the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Within a week 468 children, from nursing infants to teenagers, had been removed.
