“Our (BigLaw) Firm’s band is called Bill Early and the Collections. This six-piece ensemble has been performing since 2006, and is made up entirely of Equity Partners from the firm’s Chicago, New York, and Boston offices. They cover rock classics as well as selected hits from the 80s, 90s, and today. A fixture at Firm events around the US, the band has a strong commitment to raising money for charity. In fact, they will be joining 10 other bands in DC on July 7 for the annual Battle of the Law Firm Bands (PDF), a fundraiser for Gifts for the Homeless.
The band was initially called “the Collections” because they thought they would get management support that way. One band member figured out that they could get even more support if they appealed to both the billing and collection sides of our leadership. It’s all pretty ironic, given Seyfarth’s reinventing of the legal services model, but it stuck. (And in case you are wondering, no, as everyone always asks, there is no such person as Bill Early).
