James Podgers, a former assistant managing editor for the Journal, died in 2018 at age 67. Podgers was known for his deep knowledge of the American Bar Association and its inner workings. He first worked as a reporter for the ABA Journal between 1978 and 1981, then rejoined the Journal staff in 1991 as an editor. He also worked as a reporter for the Joliet (Ill.) Herald-News and as the assistant dean for public affairs at Chicago Kent College of Law. Podgers earned a J.D. from Chicago-Kent and a B.A. in history from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
