Now in its fifth year, ABA Giving Day offers members the opportunity to support nearly 50 different programs that provide pro bono representation to those in need, fight for systemic change in the justice system and drive innovation in legal services.

The ABA Fund for Justice and Education, the charitable arm of the association, sponsors the annual fundraiser, which is scheduled for Oct. 24.

Members can choose to donate to specific entities or initiatives, such as the Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs or the Afghan Legal Professionals Scholarship & Mentoring Pilot Program. They can also direct their donations to the Fund for Justice and Education Annual Fund, which will then support programs with the greatest needs.

The Fund for Justice and Education hopes to surpass the amount raised during last year’s ABA Giving Day—more than $395,000.

This included more than $25,000 in donations to the Military Pro Bono Project, the only national legal program that works to address the access-to-justice gap for military families, according to the 2023 ABA Giving Day Impact Report.

Donors also contributed more than $33,000 to the Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund in 2023. According to the Fund for Justice and Education, more than 400 other people have benefited from the scholarship fund since its inception, including Benedict Nsenga, who was originally from Rwanda and is now a law student at the Michigan State University College of Law.

ABA Giving Day happens in conjunction with the National Celebration of Pro Bono, which is Oct. 20 to 26.

For more information or to donate, visit the ABA Giving Day website. It is now open and accepting early donations.
