Members can support dozens of programs during 2023 ABA Giving Day
This year’s ABA Giving Day is offering members even more ways to support ongoing projects that address urgent social and legal issues.
During the ABA Fund for Justice and Education’s Oct. 26 fundraising event, which is now in its fourth year, members who wish to donate can choose from more than 50 different programs that improve access to justice, enhance diversity and equity and uphold the rule of law. Specific initiatives include the Military Pro Bono Project, the Judicial Intern Opportunity Program and the South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project.
Members can also ask that their donations be designated as unrestricted and support programs with the greatest needs, according to an ABA news release. These donations can be directed to the Fund for Justice and Education Annual Fund.
The Fund for Justice and Education, the charitable arm of the association, hopes to raise $350,000 during ABA Giving Day, a 25% increase from the amount raised in 2022. Again this year, it also aims to inspire more than 1,000 donors to participate in the event.
The inaugural ABA Giving Day attracted more than 300 donors who contributed $115,000 to eight programs addressing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and advancing racial justice in 2020.
The 2021 ABA Giving Day featured 16 programs that support people and programs that strengthen communities. By the end of the campaign, more than 730 people donated more than $252,000.
In 2022, ABA Giving Day asked members to support 16 entities and programs that advance democracy, equity or justice. Among their contributions, donors invested nearly $40,000 in the Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund, which provided eight law students of color with $5,000 for their 2022-2023 academic year. They also donated nearly $25,000 to the Rule of Law Initiative’s Afghanistan Response Project and $50,000 to the Section of Taxation’s Christine A. Brunswick Public Service Fellowship program.
ABA Giving Day happens in conjunction with the National Celebration of Pro Bono, which is Oct. 22 to 28.
