The legal services sector added 5,100 jobs in June, nearing the 10-year high-water mark set almost a year ago.

The sector had 1,185,100 jobs in June, shy of the July 2022 total by 2,800 jobs, according to preliminary and seasonally adjusted figures released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The number of legal jobs plummeted during the pandemic, dropping to 1,094,100 jobs in April 2020, according to the latest figures from the bureau.

The June 2023 figure follows a loss of 100 jobs in May and a gain of 2,700 jobs in April. The May figure is still preliminary.

The June figure is 1,800 more jobs than a year ago.

The jobs number is based on payroll jobs for attorneys and staff members working at firms providing legal services. The jobs data can change in revisions of preliminary numbers and in the annual look-back process.
