Law school applicants and applications have decreased, new LSAC data shows
Law school applications for the 2022 enrollment year have decreased by 11.7%, compared to 2021, according to data recently released by the Law School Admission Council.
A report looks at the applicant pool over a three-year period. As of Aug. 1, there were 62,624 law school applicants, compared to 70,904 in 2021 and 62,917 in 2020.
By schools, 43 had application volume increases for 2022, and 152 had decreases, according to a summary by the LSAC. Four schools saw no change in the volume of applicants.
Score ranges for applicants are also detailed. For the 175 to 180 range, which represents the top band, there was an 11.7% decrease between the 2021 and 2022 school years. And for the 170 to 174 range, there was a 14.4% decrease.
