Florida Trial Lawyer Willie Gary and His Law Firm Must Pay $12.5M to Litigation Funding Company
A Florida trial lawyer known both for the big verdicts he has won and his lavish lifestyle has been hit with a $12.5 million verdict in a case brought by a litigation funding company.
Willie Gary, his law firm, Gary, Williams, Lewis & Watson, and another partner are the defendants in the case. A federal judge in Albany, N.Y., on Friday awarded $12.5 million to LFG National Capital, an affiliate of LawFinance Group Inc., Reuters reports.
The news agency apparently did not reach Gary for comment after the verdict, but reports that he has said his firm has suffered during the recessionary economy.
“The last two to three years have been just tough economic times for the world, and our law firm is no exception,” he told Reuters several months ago. “We’ve been working our butts off to weather the storm.”
