In a blow to the Bush administration’s effort to keep its roster of visitors private, a federal judge has ruled that the White House visitor logs are public.

U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth, of the District of Columbia, issued a memorandum opinion (PDF) on Monday that the White House logs and the logs from Vice President Dick Cheney’s residence are subject to public records requests, the Associated Press reports. He then issued an order (PDF) that the records be produced.

The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington sought Secret Service logs of visits to the White House and Cheney’s residence by Abramoff and others, primarily conservative Christians.
