White House to Give Secret Wiretap Documents to House Committees
The Bush administration has agreed to turn over documents about its warrantless wiretap program to members of the House intelligence and judiciary committees.
The president acted after some intelligence committee members said they wanted to see the documents before they would support immunity for telecommunications companies that aided the wiretap program, the Associated Press reports. The Senate Intelligence Committee has included immunity in its bill extending authority for the wiretap program.
The documents to be turned over include Justice Department legal opinions reaching back to 2001, according to an aide to Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes.
