What are the biggest roadblocks to productivity in your day?

Earlier this week, we reported on an consultant who has advised attorneys to stop checking their email as soon as it comes in and to delegate as many routine tasks to assistants as possible.

But there are other things that can keep us from getting as much done during a workday as we’d like. Perhaps it’s your commute. Maybe it’s office chatter. It might be attending unproductive meetings.

So this week, we’d like to ask you: What’s the biggest time suck in your day? If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine to increase productivity, what would it be?

Answer in the comments.

I also fell in love with the tax laws and the process of applying them when I filled out my first 1040-EZ in high school. Thought about becoming a CPA but was bad at math. Then I went to college and got a degree in History. At that point, knew it was either law school or some kind of teaching career. Was waffling about what to do, went to my favorite Chinese restaurant for lunch one day, and got a fortune cookie. Opened the fortune cookie to see on the slip ‘You would make an excellent attorney.’ No BS. Figured that was a good enough reason to finally decide in favor of law school, and began the process of LSAT prep and collecting law school info. Haven’t regretted it yet.”

Also was interested in law, but couldn’t decide what to do. I had the exact same fortune in my fortune cookie at lunch in the surgery center I was working for. I kept the fortune (still have it) as a reminder of why I started. Sometimes things are just meant to be! Amazing story.”
