Wesley Snipes Jurors Want Definition of ‘Conspiracy’
The judge in the tax fraud trial of actor Wesley Snipes sent jurors home for the day yesterday after they submitted a note asking for further clarification of the definition of “conspiracy.”
Afterward, U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges asked lawyers in the case for their recommended response before the trial begins today, the St. Petersburg Times reports.
Snipes is on trial in Ocala, Fla., for tax fraud, conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service, and failure to file tax returns. He is on trial with two co-defendants who are also accused of conspiracy. Jurors deliberated briefly on Tuesday and for a full day yesterday, the Ocala Star-Banner reports.
The prosecution rested last week after testimony from an IRS agent who said Snipes earned almost $38 million from 1999 to 2004, when he failed to file tax returns. The defense called no witnesses.
