U.S. Prosecutor Arrested in Child Sex Sting
A federal prosecutor has been arrested on suspicion of flying to metropolitan Detroit with the intention of having sex with a 5-year-old girl.
John David Roy Atchison was arrested in an undercover Internet sex sting, the Detroit Free Press reports. Police told the newspaper he flew with a Dora the Explorer doll, hoop earrings and petroleum jelly that he planned to use in the sexual encounter.
Atchison handles civil and criminal matters in the Northern District of Florida. Court documents said Atchison described himself as a family man and suggested he had previously had sex with minors.
Atchison reportedly told the undercover officer in an online conversation that he would be gentle with the 5-year-old girl, ClickOnDetroit reports. “Just gotta go slow and very easy. I’ve done it plenty,” he allegedly told the undercover detective. Atchison thought he was speaking with the mother of the girl, police say.
“Nothing surprises us anymore,” said Sheriff Mark Hackel of Macomb County.
