Guantanamo/Detainees
UK to Accept 5 Gitmo Detainees
The British government has reversed course and asked for the return of five former U.K. residents being held at Guantanamo Bay.
The New York Times says the Bush administration is likely to welcome the request, even though only one of the men has been cleared for release. The administration has sought to reduce the number of detainees but has been blocked by countries unwilling to accept them.
Discussions continue about the release. The United States wants countries that accept the detainees to monitor their activities.
