UK Firms Accept Partnership Alternatives
Top London law firms battling associate attrition are embracing partnership alternatives.
Fifty-nine percent of the big U.K. firms offer such alternatives, Legal Week reports. Of those that do, 30 percent introduced the new jobs in the past year.
SJ Berwin is one of the firms that is gearing up to offer the new career path. “There are various needs these roles respond to,” senior partner Jonathan Blake told the legal publication. “On one hand you have the motivation of associates who do not want to make the commitment to make partner, but are skilled and happy in their job. On the other, you have the motivations of a partnership that wants to retain its best talent, but for various reasons does not want to make them partner.”
Many big London firms have associate attrition rates as high as 20 percent or more.
