Trump campaign lawyer asks to withdraw from suit, says filing was used to incite violence

A lawyer for President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is asking to withdraw from a Pennsylvania election lawsuit on the ground that “the client has used the lawyer’s services to perpetuate a crime.”
Lawyer Jerome Marcus sought to withdraw in a motion filed on Thursday, report the Legal Intelligencer and Politico.
Marcus explained in a statement to Politico that he wants to withdraw because of the assault on the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
“I believe that the filing of that and other cases was used by President Trump yesterday to incite people to violence. I refer specifically to his urging people to come to Washington for a ‘wild’ protest,” Marcus told Politico. “I want absolutely no part of that. Therefore, I have asked the court to allow me to withdraw as counsel.”
Marcus’ motion to withdraw also said his client “insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant and with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement.”
Marcus is the lawyer who complained to a federal judge that GOP observers weren’t allowed to watch the ballot count in Philadelphia—before acknowledging that “a nonzero number” of people” were in the room.
