A Baltimore lawyer is waging a legal battle for $200,000 in fees from Blank Rome in a trial that began Monday.

Lawyer Nathaniel Jones Jr. of Baltimore says the law firm owes him fees for legal advice he provided during the firm’s representation of an investment manager convicted of fraud in 2004, the American Lawyer reports.

Jones represented two other officials at the firm of the convicted investment manager, the story explains. He claims he was asked to participate on Blank Rome’s defense team and was promised that the law firm would pay his fee.

Blank Rome agrees that it added Jones to the defense team at the request of its client but said there was no agreement to pay Jones and no agreement that the law firm would foot the bill for his fees, according to the story. The firm claims the small amount it paid Jones was done to satisfy other clients with an interest in the case.

Blank Rome is also likely to argue that Jones helped on the case to help his own clients. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
