An American tourist in Australia has settled a lawsuit against Qantas that claims she suffered permanent hearing loss because of a screaming boy on one of its flights.

Terms of the settlement are confidential, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Jean Barnard, 67, claimed in her suit that she was boarding the plane when a 3-year-old boy leaned over his armrest and screamed in her direction, causing her ears to bleed and leaving her “stone cold deaf.”

Lawyers for Qantas had argued the airline was not responsible for the accident, the story says. “Plaintiff’s injuries, if any, were caused by the arbitrary and volitional act of a 3-year-old child,” they wrote.
