Seramount named 50 best firms in all, but it also created a top five list for the first time, according to a June 1 press release and Above the Law, which listed all 50 firms.
More information can be found at Seramount’s list and a Seramount blog post.
The top five firms, in alphabetical order, are:
- Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer
- Littler Mendelson
- Morrison & Foerster
- Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe
- Perkins Coie
Seramount determined its 2023 Best Law Firms for Women & Diversity using an application with more than 300 questions. Subjects included the demographics of each firm’s lawyers at different levels, retention, flexibility, paid time off, parental leave, family friendly benefits and mentoring.
Forty-two percent of lawyers from firms on the 50 best list were women, up from 41% last year. Twenty-three percent of the lawyers were people of color, up from 22% last year.
The percentage of female lawyers promoted to equity partner was 39%, up from 37% last year. The percentage of people of color promoted to equity partner was 17%, down from 18% last year.
Eighty-four percent of the firms offer backup child care, 90% subsidize everyday child care costs, 96% offer formal mentoring, and 92% offer anti-racism training. The average fully paid gender-neutral parental leave for associates is 17 weeks.
Seramount is now part of EAB, a professional services and research company dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion.
