Thacher Proffitt Loses Vice Chairman and White Plains Lawyers
The vice chairman of Thacher Proffitt & Wood is jumping to Greenberg Traurig along with seven other lawyers who made up the firm’s office in White Plains, N.Y.
The American Lawyer reports on the development. Outgoing vice chairman Thomas Leslie said in a press release that Thacher Profitt “is a fine firm” but he decided to leave so he can practice at a firm “with a more diverse business model and broader platform.”
The moves apparently forced the closing of the White Plains office. A receptionist told the American Lawyer it closed last week. The firm’s headcount is down by more than 100 lawyers since September 2007, the story says.
Thacher Profitt’s structured finance practice has suffered in the economic meltdown. Prior reports say the firm has laid off at least 60 associates in three rounds of cuts.
Also joining Greenberg Traurig is White Plains partner Thomas Infurna. Both Infurna and Leslie dealt with the sale and financing of real estate. Three of counsel and three associates are also making the move.
