It didn’t take long for a third Texas law firm to raise pay for beginning associates to $160,000.

Locke Liddell & Sapp announced the pay hike will take effect on Aug. 1, Texas Lawyer reports. Managing partner Jerry Clements said the move is intended to help the firm “remain a competitive force in the marketplace, and to attract and keep top talent.”

Vinson & Elkins started the ball rolling last week when it announced it will match starting salaries paid by big law firms on the coasts. Andrews Kurth soon followed.
