Tex Parte Does the Math, Says Baker Botts Is Down 25 Associates
When Baker Botts announced layoffs last week, the firm declined to say how many attorneys were being let go.
But the Tex Parte blog of Texas Lawyer has done some number-crunching and come up with a figure.
Based on comparisons of the firm’s website on Aug. 26 and Sept. 1, the law blog says 25 associates are no longer at the firm, which now has 733 lawyers on its attorney roster firmwide, compared to 758 a week earlier. Of that group, 12 practiced in Houston, eight in Dallas, two in Austin, and three were outside Texas, in Washington, D.C.
Some of these 25 associates, of course, may have left voluntarily, the blog notes.
It also notes that the firm’s attorney roster is 11 percent slimmer than in January, when it included 825 lawyers.
The firm declined to comment on the number-crunching, Tex Parte reports.
