Sutherland and Eversheds confirm merger talks
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan and Eversheds have confirmed they are discussing a merger that would create a law firm with more than 2,300 lawyers in 29 countries.
According to a joint statement by the firms, a merger proposal is being presented to partners for a vote likely to take place by the end of the year. The new firm would be called Eversheds Sutherland.
Sutherland is based in Atlanta and Eversheds is one of the largest law firms in the United Kingdom, according to coverage by the Daily Report (sub. req.). Eversheds, the larger firm, has about 1,900 lawyers, but it has no U.S. office. Sutherland’s only foreign office is in London, and it has just 10 lawyers. The combined firm would have 61 offices.
Both firms have similar profits per equity partner, according to the Daily Report.
The merger proposal, according to the firms’ announcement, “is driven by a shared vision of providing clients with high-quality, consistent and coordinated service around the globe.”
