Suspended DA calls press conference to deny he committed perjury

A newly elected district attorney in Alabama called a press conference on Tuesday to deny that he committed perjury in a divorce case.
Charles Todd Henderson was barred from taking office in Jefferson County because of his perjury indictment on Friday, AL.com reports. He was accused of making a false statement under oath in the divorce case last September.
Henderson said in the press conference that he didn’t perjure himself. “I’m standing here today and I’m telling you I didn’t do it,” he said. “I look forward to my day in court and I hope that day comes soon.”
Henderson had been a guardian ad litem in the divorce case but was removed last May amid allegations that he was biased against the father, according to the AL.com story. It’s unclear exactly what he testified to in September, but there were allegations he was in a romantic relationship with the mother, who had worked on his campaign.
One of Henderson’s attorneys, Jim Parkman, told AL.com that Henderson was not involved in a relationship with the mother while he was guardian ad litem, except for her campaign work. Parkman said Henderson “hooked up” with the mother months after he was removed as guardian ad litem.
Parkman said a review of Henderson’s testimony at the September trial found “no false statement given by Todd or any material false statement.”
