A gift of flowers said far more than Leroy Greer intended. The florist he called, 1-800-Flowers, delivered a dozen long-stemmed red roses to his girlfriend, along with a love note, as Greer asked. But it also allegedly sent a thank-you note to Greer’s home, which was read by his wife, prompting her to investigate further.

Now the Texas man is suing 1-800-Flowers, contending that the company violated its own privacy policy and seeking $1 million in damages, reports ABC News. His lawsuit alleges breach of contract and deceptive trade practices on the florist’s part.

Greer and his wife were already in the midst of what his lawyer describes as an amicable divorce when the bouquet bombshell hit. But after learning of his affair due to the news of the flower delivery, his wife is now seeking a $300,000 settlement in addition to child support, says Kennitra Foote, Greer’s attorney. “That thank-you note is going to cost him money.”

The florist declined to comment specifically on the suit. However, spokesman Steven Jarmon said the company “takes all matters relating to our customers seriously” but is “not responsible for an individual’s personal conduct.”
