Suit Claims Lady Gaga Reps Delayed Release of Bratz Lookalike, Sought 'Supermodel-Like' Tweaks
A toy maker has sued Lady Gaga and her merchandising and management companies for $10 million in a dispute over the release date of a Bratz Doll that looks like the singer.
The suit by MGA Entertainment Inc. claims the star wanted to delay release of the doll until her new album comes out in 2013, according to Bloomberg News, TheWrap.com, the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press. The suit cites an email by a management company executive who asked if the doll could be “more supermodel-like” with “more of a cat-eye and sexier, poutier lips.”
“Think a prettier version of [Lady] Gaga,” the email says. The executive also asked to see a prototype in which the doll’s head could be removed to reveal a “bloody stump.”
A New York judge denied an MGA request for an order requiring the defendants to immediately approve the doll. A Lady Gaga representative said there was “no legitimate reason” to drag the star into the dispute between the companies. The judge will consider a motion to dismiss on Aug. 29.
