Solicitor General Had Winning Supreme Court Term
Solicitor General Paul Clement was on the winning side in 20 out of 25 Supreme Court cases in which the Justice Department filed an amicus brief last term.
In business cases, Clement was particularly successful, staking out a win in six out of seven cases. The figures are reported in a Bloomberg article that notes the influence of the solicitor general’s office and says the new president will have a chance to influence the court through the stances it takes.
In the new term that began this week, acting Solicitor General Gregory Garre is seeking to limit failure-to-warn lawsuits by prescription-drug patients, defending government penalties for unscripted “fleeing expletives” on television, and backing workers who face retaliation for cooperating in their employers’ bias probes.
