Leaders of Dentons and Chinese law firm Dacheng commemorated the joining of their two law firms—producing the world’s largest law firm by head count—in a signing ceremony this week.

The ceremony was held in Beijing on Tuesday morning after Chinese regulators approved the deal, Law 360 (sub. req.) reports. A press release (PDF) calls the combination “a historic first,” creating a law firm with more than 6,500 lawyers and professionals in 120 locations in more than 50 countries.

Dentons global chairman Joe Andrew will be global chairman of the new firm, while Dacheng standing committee chairman Peng Xuefeng will be chairman of the new firm’s global board and global advisory committee. Dentons global chief executive officer Elliott Portnoy will be global CEO of the new firm.

The new firm will have five regions—in Asia, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom and the Middle East—each led by a regional CEO.
