SG Paul Clement to Teach at Georgetown Law School
Updated: Outgoing Solicitor General Paul Clement will join Georgetown law school as a visiting law professor and a senior fellow at the school’s Supreme Court Institute.
Two weeks ago, Clement had announced he will resign from the Justice Department on June 2, but he did not indicate his future plans. Some managing partners had speculated Clement could command annual compensation at a big law firm as high as $2 million or $3 million.
Clement said the move is not likely to be permanent, according to The BLT: The Blog of Legal Times. “It’s full-time, but temporary—a full-time job until I get the next full-time job,” he told the publication.
Clement told The BLT he hopes eventually to work for a private firm where he can argue cases once again before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Georgetown spokeswoman Kara Tershel says Clement will be a full-time visiting professor at the school through the fall.
Clement taught a seminar on the separation of powers as an adjunct professor at the law school from 1998 to 2004, according to a press release. He will update the subject matter and resume teaching the course.
