Seyfarth Shaw Chairman Tight-Lipped About Merger Talks
The chairman of Chicago-based Seyfarth Shaw says he wants to keep growing the law firm, but he won’t comment on reports that one of the options is to merge with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.
Seyfarth Shaw has been through three mergers since 2000, the National Law Journal reports, and is said to be exploring a Squire Sanders merger. Past mergers have helped the employment law firm double in size and branch out into real estate and corporate work, the story says.
Squire Sanders is the bigger firm with 32 offices, including 17 outside the country, compared to Seyfarth Shaw’s nine U.S. offices and one single-person outpost in Brussels.
Seyfarth chairman Stephen Poor told the National Law Journal the firm is weighing the options. “There are tremendous opportunities out there, but we also have seen firms taking missteps and we’re trying to learn from that,” Poor told the National Law Journal.
