Senator: No More Bush Justices
What would happen if the U.S. Supreme Court saw another vacancy before President Bush leaves office?
An all-out war is the likely answer, according to the Washington Post blog The Trail.
“Some Bush advisers believe a new Supreme Court fight would be the best chance for him to influence his legacy, while some Democrats would try to block any appointment even 18 months before the end of his presidency,” Peter Baker writes.
One senator vowing to block any Bush appointee is Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. “Given the track record of this president and the experience of obfuscation at the hearings, with respect to the Supreme Court, at least, I will recommend to my colleagues that we should not confirm a Supreme Court nominee except in extraordinary circumstances,” Schumer told the American Constitution Society.
