Runaway SUV crashes into courthouse, eliminating power and air conditioning
A Virginia courthouse closed Wednesday after a runaway SUV crashed into the side of the Colonial Heights building.
The SUV, which had no driver at the wheel, escaped from a nearby car wash when a worker there tried to move it after it was detailed but then couldn’t stop it, the sheriff’s department said. The SUV hit a power box at the side of the building, which may have stopped it from entering the court clerk’s office but eliminated electricity and air conditioning for the building, WWBT reports. The courthouse is running on auxiliary power.
The car wash worker was injured, but it isn’t known how seriously. Crews expected to have full power restored to the building by 7 p.m., according to WWBT.
