A retired New Jersey judge is blaming exposure to asbestos at the Passaic County courthouse for his cancer.
Former Judge Amos Saunders of is among more than 350 asbestos plaintiffs whose claims are pending in state court, the New Jersey Law Journal reports. The New Jersey Star Ledger notes the story. Saunders, 80, has adenocarcinoma, a type of cancer that can affect the lungs and other organs.
Besides Passaic County, the defendants are two companies allegedly involved in removing asbestos from the Paterson, New Jersey, courthouse in 1983. Saunders claims he was exposed to asbestos at the courthouse before and during the removal of the material.
One of the companies claimed Saunders sued too late, but a judge rejected the argument in February.
