Retention Rates for Trainee Lawyers High at Top U.K. Law Firms
Retention of trainee lawyers is high at many of the top British law firms.
Eighteen out of London’s top 25 law firms retained more than 90 percent of their trainee lawyers hired in March, Legal Week reports. Six firms held on to all of their trainees.
The firms that made offers to all of their March class of qualifying lawyers are Slaughter and May, SJ Berwin, Norton Rose, Nabarro, Travers Smith and Jones Day.
Nabarro senior partner Simon Johnston said firms want to hold on to their investment in new people. “Once you get great people in and spend time and money investing in them, you want to give them the best shot,” he said. “There is uncertainty, but we do not know which way it will go, and work levels have not fallen off a cliff. You cannot take a short-term view.”
