Report: Appeals judge holds intoxicated home intruder at gunpoint until police arrive
An intoxicated man wearing one shoe was arrested early Wednesday after being held at gunpoint in the Fredericksburg home of a senior Virginia appeals court judge, police said.
Judge James W. Haley Jr. of the Virginia Court of Appeals confirmed that the incident occurred at his home but declined to discuss it with the Free Lance-Star. Unidentified sources told the newspaper that the homeowner, who police said came out of a bedroom and confronted the intruder on the second floor, was in fact the judge.
Matthew Christopher Rogers, 25, faces misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and interfering with the property of another. At last report, he was being held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
His other shoe and cellphone were found outside the judge’s home, the newspaper reports.
The article doesn’t include any comment from Rogers’ legal counsel.
