After exploring a possible merger with Howrey that was doomed by potential practice conflicts and an ongoing attorney exodus, Winston & Strawn is seeking to recruit some Howrey lawyers individually, reports Crain’s Chicago Business.

The article, which relies on unidentified “industry sources” and “a person familiar with the situation” says Chicago-based Winston & Strawn is making offers this week to a number of Howrey lawyers. Howrey opened an office in Chicago in 2001 which now has 24 lawyers, according to the firm’s website.

Representatives of the two firms declined to comment when contacted by Crain’s.
