Refile Brief Without So Many Blackouts & Expect Public Sentence, Judge Tells Son Of Michael Douglas
Lawyers for the son of actor Michael Douglas need to refile his plea for a leniency without so many blackouts and he should expect a public sentence, a federal judge in New York said today.
“Huge portions” of the inch-thick filing were originally hidden from the public by blackouts, including a letter from Douglas about his son, Cameron. But U.S. District Judge Richard Berman said in an order today that only limited details, such as home addresses, phone numbers, medical records and “information regarding any individual’s cooperation with the government, if any,” can be kept confidential, reports the New York Post.
Berman also declined a defense request that Cameron Douglas be privately sentenced in the drug case. He faces a mandatory 10-year term unless the government seeks to reduce the sentence based on his cooperation, the newspaper notes.
